.While my upbringing was awesome and filled with loving parents, it did have its challenges. My father had a heart condition and was supposed to die as a baby. My mother had her own health struggles, but because my dad was the sicker of the two, she had to be the rock of our family. No matter how dark the circumstances, I always knew I had the love of my family to get us through.Cartooning brought me so much joy and purpose—it became my escape to cope with whatever life threw my way. When my dad was in the Alfred Hospital fighting for his life, I knew that if I pushed through the fear and drew a Ninja Pig, it would make me smile and give me a positive outlook. It's that positive outlook, that joy I have found in cartooning, that I bring to my work. It’s not just about the picture; it’s about the joy of drawing it. It’s the joy someone experiences when it’s being drawn, the smile and laughter they feel when they see it, and the pride they feel when it’s hung on the wall at home. That joy is what I crave and offer. I don’t just want people to be drawn; I want them to feel seen and heard. By getting a Nick Love Cartoon, bringing me to an event, or having me create something for you, you are investing in a vision that my cartooning can bring—hope in the darkest of places, a smile that has been forgotten, and the opportunity to unlock a better tomorrow for the people I draw for and come into contact with. If creativity is a gift, then I want to share it and bring joy and hope to others. Now, that’s something worth investing in. By using Nick Love Cartoons, you are joining the "Bigr Picture" crusade, and I welcome you.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY BIGR PICTURE CRUSADE? I was at a gig once, and someone asked me, "Does the money for this cartoon go to you?" It made me pause for a second. I thought, I drew it; where do you think it’s going? But in that moment, it challenged me. I've always had the heart to help others, to bring hope and joy. It only takes one kind act to change the course of someone's life. It got me thinking, where does the money from Nick Love Cartoons go? Although I'm not a nonprofit business, the money does go to support me and my family. But how do I illustrate who I am and what I’m about? I’m about the Bigger Picture—not just for my life or my family’s life, but for the bigger picture of others' lives too. And that's where the idea was born: the BigR Picture Crusade. It's basically my mission statement. By using Nick Love Cartoons, you are helping me create programs to support and encourage others to focus on the BigR Picture. Someone might have lost their job or been bullied at school. They feel so down that they can’t see the picture for today, let alone tomorrow. Maybe a cartoon, a workshop, or a drawing coaching session could be the beginning of their journey toward a better tomorrow. The future isn’t drawn yet, and I would love your help. We all can have a hand in the BigR Picture in someone’s life.
